Seems like Katy Perry was inspired by Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, circa 2001.
Katy Perry took a leaf out of Britney and Justin’s playbook (who could forget those matching get-ups at the 2001 American Music Awards?), as she attended the Country Music Association Awards on Wednesday night in – you’ve guessed it — double denim.

The singer opted for an off-shoulder corseted top and baggy jeans by Porto-based design duo Marques’Almeida, featuring an oversized bow on the waist. Finishing off the Noughties-inspired red carpet look, Perry added a pearl and diamond choker by Mikimoto and a pair of glittering heels.
It’s not the first time the pop star has sported denim on the red carpet, with Perry wearing a Britney-esque patchwork dress by Versace at the 2014 VMA Awards, alongside rapper Riff Raff, who acted as her Justin for the night in head-to-toe denim.
This time around, Perry’s denim ensemble came with strong sustainability credentials, too – with Marques’Almeida using organic, recycled and biodegradable materials in its collections. All its denim is ozone washed, a technique that uses 50 per cent less water and chemicals compared to conventional methods. A nostalgic look that’s also got an eco-friendly slant? We approve.
